WordPress Events and Conferences of 2018

This post is frequently updated.

The only way to get ahead in your business is to plan ahead. When it comes to planning for WordPress events and conferences, the earlier you start to think about them, the easier it will be to justify them when planning your schedule for the upcoming year.

Whether you want to learn more about WordPress, are looking to meet others in the community, or are looking for business connections, the following WordPress events and conferences are your best options for 2018:

LOOPCONF

Where: Salt Lake City, Utah
When: February 21-24, 2018

LOOPCONF was first started in 2015 and quickly gained recognition as one of the top WordPress events and conferences available. As far as audience is concerned, you’ll get the most from LOOPCONF if you’re an enterprise company using WordPress. The conference’s content will go over more in-depth topics on engineering, design and growth for web developers.

The first day of LOOPCONF is full of speaking sessions and you’ll appreciate that sessions are small (well, if you consider 250-300 people “small”). Interestingly, the last day of the conference is full of activities that only a winter sports-friendly state like Utah can offer: tubing, snowboarding, and skiing.

Post Status Publish

Where: TBD
When: TBD

Post Status Publish is a two day conference put on specifically for web professionals. The purpose of this event has always been to bring up the conversations, interviews, and case studies that aren’t typical main stage conference material.

With this in mind, Post Status Publish’s event content focuses on 4 areas: web publishing, web hosting, ecommerce, and business on the web.

If you plan to attend the conference, you might want to consider first signing up for a Post Status Club membership ($99/year). Doing so will net you a nice discount on the event in addition to extra perks that include deals for Post Status partner services, access to a community of talented WordPress professionals, and exclusive WordPress resources.

The 2017 Post Status Publish conference was held in Atlanta, Georgia on August 3-4, but no venue and date for 2018 has been announced yet.

PressNomics

Where: TBD
When: TBD

PressNomics is one of the most popular WordPress events and conferences on the market and is hosted by Pagely (hey, that’s us!). As of April 2017, there have been five PressNomics events.

Targeted specifically at WordPress business owners, this three-day event focuses on the people, products, and ideas growing the WordPress economy. The event is usually organized in terms of 2 days of sessions, 1 day of golf, and cultural outing taking the host city into account.

Over the course of the 5 PressNomics events that have been hosted so far, we’ve raised over $40k for charities- primarily cancer research for children. Because of this, attending PressNomics means doing good while learning something new about WordPress: the perfect combination!

In 2017, PressNomics was hosted in Tempe, Arizona but no venue and date for 2018 has been announced just yet.

WPCampus

Where: TBD
When: Online, January 30, 2018; in-person, TBD

WPCampus is a niche WordPress event that was originally started in 2015. The event attracts a community of web professionals, educators, and people dedicated to the confluence of WordPress specifically in higher education. WPCampus events are open to faculty, staff, students, and even professionals outside full-time higher education from all over the world.

WPCampus is hosted as one in-person and one virtual conference per year. The last WPCampus event occurred on July 14-15 2017 in Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. Event organizers are currently reviewing schools to host the 2018 conference but the next online conference portion of the event will be held on January 30, 2018.

A Day of Rest

Where: TBD
When: TBD

A Day of Rest is a conference dedicated to the WordPress REST API, which is a connector between WordPress and other software applications. It will be interesting to see if and how this conference happens in 2018, especially after Matt Mullenweg pulled the React framework from WordPress due to a patents clause.

Assuming the conference happens this year, attendees will have the chance to learn about how the API was built, how it can be used in different contexts, and what it all means for the future of WordPress development.

The 2017 conference was held in Boston from March 8-10 but the date and venue for the 2018 conference hasn’t been announced.

WooConf

Where: TBD
When: TBD

WooConf is a 2-day niche event focused on the WordPress ecommerce platform, WooCommerce. WooConf sessions focus on different types of ecommerce tips that cater specifically to developers and ecommerce owners.

WooConf 2017 was held on October 19-20 in Seattle, but the date and venue for 2018 is still TBA.

Indieweb Summit

Where: TBD
When: TBD

The Indieweb Summit is a gathering of independent web creators: from graphic artist to UX engineers, as well as coders and hackers. It is also known as one of the biggest digital gatherings for people interested in PDH (Personal Digital Home).

Founded in 2011, it started as an IndieWebCamp based on the BarCamp model but then transitioned to the first Indieweb Summit in 2016 (or, the 6th IndieWebCamp). There are several IndieWebCamps held each year, each at different locations.

The 2017 summit was held in Portland, Oregon on June 24 and 25. Currently, there’s no set venue or date for the 2018 summit but plan for it to once again take place in June in Portland, Oregon. You can check for updates on the Indieweb events page. Note that there’s a IndieWebCamp planned in Nuremberg, Germany, which will take place on October 20-21, 2018.

WordCamp EU

Where: Belgrade, Serbia
When: June 14-16, 2018

“WordCamp” is the all-encompassing term that refers to locally-organized WordPress events and conferences. There are WordCamps events being held all over the world. In fact, according to the WordCamp central website, there have been 751 WordCamps executed since the first one was held in 2006.

Europe’s 2017 WordCamp was held in Paris, and attracted ~2000 visitors from 79 countries who came to listen to WordPress news and best practices from over 30 speakers in 6 tracks.

Since the 2018 WordCamp Europe event is still far away, they are currently looking for speakers. If you’re interested, now’s the time to submit your application!

WordCamp US

Where: TBD
When: TBD

The 2017 WordCamp US was recently held December 1-3 at Nashville, Tennessee and will most likely also be the location of the 2018 WordCamp US following this announcement.

Since the last WordCamp US just happened (as of this writing), there’s no word yet about speakers, topics, and the date of this WordPress event. Refer to WordCamp Central for more details regarding upcoming WordCamp events, including the following, which have already been announced for 2018:

If you’re interested in being a speaker or sponsor at these WordPress events and conferences, most of them are still soliciting applications.
